Poland: A Dinner Guest with a Hankering for Pierogies

Cafe Polonez – 195 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto On, M6R 2L5
Country: Poland
Seating: Large indoor dining
Must-try Dish: Perogies (Cheddar & Potato and Sauerkraut & Mushroom )
Dinner Guests: Dani P & The 4th

After being delayed for a few weeks we finally made it to Cafe Polonez to eat at Toronto’s top rated Polish restaurant. Meals are not just about the food you eat but the company you dine with. Therefore we decided to work around our guests schedule to accommodate fellow eaters with mad hankerings for some delicious cheddar and potato pierogies (our favourite of the night).

I mean so what it was a Monday, why not start off with a few Polish Beers to ease the tension of trying to narrow down the options. In a menu where everything sounds so delightful we once again relied on the grace of yet another awesome waitstaff to guide us through this crucial decision.

Obviously we wanted to try as much as possible, so why not get a platter. The platter consisted of pierogies, Polonez Schnitzel, cabbage rolls and a salad bouquet. And because that wasn’t enough why not order a side of potato pancakes and some additional pierogies. I mean our server was lovely, she even brought us over an extra table so that we would have enough room to support our order.

When the food arrived we quickly divided the main components into quarters then dug in. As we enjoyed all the different flavours that Poland had to offer, Andrea recited stories of all the fabulous eats from her recent trip whilst in Poland with Chart.

There was nothing ordered that was left uneaten, our only complaint was that we couldn’t try more. The “classic” Cheddar and potato pierogies were the tables must-try dish though I think we were all pleasantly surprised with the sauerkraut and mushroom pierogies and how the flavours just worked so well together.

At the end of the meal, there were no complaints. Especially when the bill came out to under $30 with tax & tip, which even included a beer each(500ml). Safe to say if you find yourself in Roncy and you, like Danny Pierogi ever have a hankering for a good pierogi or any other delicious Polish eats, Cafe Polonez is the place for you.

Eat with you soon,

Mandrea Bike
(Mat & Andrea)
