King’s Tacos – 1190 St. Clair Ave W, Toronto, ON M6E 1B4
Country: Mexico
Seating: Large indoor seating
Must-try dish: King’s Special
Dinner guest: Curly Guy
Between his travels, our main-man Curl needed a fix of traditional Mexican fare and did the right thing by asking his Mexican barber where he would eat here in Toronto. Not surprisingly, we joined in on this culinary adventure to see what King’s Tacos on St. Clair is all about.
It was pretty busy for a Tuesday night in August, considering there wasn’t a patio, and this was a good sign. We promptly ordered a round of pineapple flavoured Jarritos at the server’s recommendation and began making menu decisions. The pineapple pops were a delicious choice by the way.
The menu is big both in size and in choice, so after a couple of friendly debates over what tacos to order for the table, we turned to our expert server for some advice. As usual, he directed us well despite Curl trying to manage the amount of food ordered for us – a classic Curl move.
We started with some guacamole and chips, which is never a bad move. Then we moved on to two large plates of beef taco platters served family-style. All the fixings were quickly delivered – sauces of various spice levels, limes, cilantro and onion, and of course the vehicles themselves, taco shells. We opted for two different beef options, the King’s Special being our favourite compare to the Ya Vas. However, both were tasty and the “make your own tacos” is a great choice for a group meal.

As a Mexican street-food enthusiast, I can honestly say that King’s Tacos may be Toronto’s best Mexican joint, but certainly isn’t the best I’ve ever had. For the top dog, you may have to go directly to the source. However, this is a good consolation if you need to satisfy a taco craving while in Toronto.
Eat with you soon,
