Greece: The Tzatziki that Keeps Giving

Colossus Greek Taverna – 280 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga, ON L5G 1H2
Country: Greece
Seating: Decent sized indoor and outdoor seating
Must-try dish: Mousaka

Mandrea Bike got greedy with Greek food as there are so many tempting options, and trying it all appeared to be the best solution. That being said, the majority of the fare seemed to have evaporated over the course of the meal, including the excess amount of tzatziki.

On the call to make the order, the employee on the other end of the phone finished by encouraging another order of tzatziki, despite already having enough for a family of four. Since Mandrea Bike goes crazy with sauces and dressings, it was only fitting to tag that on the bill, just in case. In the end, the tzatziki went unfinished, but only barely, and the remainder was used to accompany a mezze platter the following day.

Colossus’ mousaka stole the show. It was creamy, rich, hearty, fluffy, and delicious, all in one bite. There are numerous ingredients required in this dish, which can make it difficult to make at home, plus a good bechamel can be complex. This makes it an excellent candidate to order at a restaurant or for takeout from a place you know makes it well, like Colossus Greek Taverna.

The Colossus Family Special is good value as it includes a large variety of food at a group price. It does claim to be for a family of four, but Mandrea Bike took it down alone on top of a mousaka. So be wary if you’re more than two adults because you may need to order some extras. However, this didn’t deter from the taste.

Here are the fixings included in the meal:

  • 2 Chicken sticks
  • 2 Pork sticks
  • Greek salad
  • Lemon potatoes
  • Rice pilaf
  • 4 Pitas
  • Tzatziki

With all this incredible food, an assurance of enough tzatziki dip was imperative, so an additional order came along with it all.

Support for local dining establishments that offer takeout and delivery is important during the COVID-19 shutdown to ensure that they can continue to feed our communities for years to come.

Eat with you soon,
