La Chingada presented itself as a delicious (and filling) night out on account of the Thursday night taco deal. It’s got to be the best deal in the city for hungry people who adore Mexican food. Needless to say, Mandrea Bike adjusted their schedule to consume as many tacos as possible for $20 in one hour.
The entire taco list is at the diner’s disposal, with two costing a little extra (La Chingada and Shrimp), but the rest fall into the flat rate. Upon the first order of three tacos, the clock starts ticking for sixty minutes of blissful taco eating.
The tacos themselves are larger than what you would find on the streets of Mexico City, and there’s no doubting the generous portion of filling. Between the entire gang, the majority of the tacos were sampled, and a few kept coming out on top: La Chinagada, Shrimp, Barbacoa and Pastor.

Not surprisingly, La Chingada is the signature taco of the restaurant. It rocks a meat-lovers style with chorizo, steak and cheese topped with some sauces and cilantro. The Shrimp was flavourful and light, a good one to night-cap with and dream about all night. For a melt in your mouth steak taco, the Barbacoa comes to the rescue. As for the Pastor, it’s a staple in the taco world and you can’t miss out on it – this place does it well.
There weren’t any taco flavours that were disliked, and although it was a meat-heavy night, the Vegetarian and Vegan options came highly recommended.
The Mandrea Bike duo must have had some liquid courage because they carried on for the fifth round of tacos joined by Young Matt, leaving Curly Guy and Suited Sebastien in the dust. Mat had a well deserved sixth after some cheers from the group and surfaced as the taco champion for the night.
With the dining restrictions a little touch and go at the moment in Toronto, taco enthusiasts can depend on La Chingada’s hidden back patio to be open for business in rain, snow or sunshine. They also have takeout options for when the weather gets a little too crazy in the winter months.
Eat with you soon,
Mandrea Bike
