Imagine a Jamaican patty stuffed between two pieces of coco bread alongside lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise to make up a sandwich… This is what’s happening in Kensington Market on a sunny afternoon.
Golden Patty is based in a modest shop tucked in the heart of Kensington Market. It’s the type of place where you order at the counter, pay at the same time and take your food to go. There is barely any standing room, but the sweet smells wafting from the bakery will keep you inside longer than necessary.
Although there are a number of other Jamaican staples on the menu, a supped-up patty is always a good idea. Going for the spicy filling is ideal, and losing the heat when paired with the sweet coco bread, as well as the fresh vegetables. A Patty Supreme is perfect for a snack, or small meal. Unlike some of the other options (Jerk Chicken), a Jamaican patty is perfect on the go. Other good option for on the go eating include, stuffed patty’s with your choice of jerk chicken or pork, and a variety of rotis and sandwiches.
For those wanting to have a meal with another human, outside of course, a dinning date in Kensington Market is both delicious and abides by Ontario’s lockdown guidelines. It’s a long shot from sharing dishes with friends, but grabbing a Patty Supreme with a friend while walking for exercise is a safe way to socialise, be active, fill your belly and soak in some vitamin D.
Eat with you soon,
