Toronto boasts an incredible variety of Vietnamese restaurants, but Nang Saigon stands out with its modern approach to traditional flavours. By blending innovative cooking techniques with authentic Vietnamese ingredients, this spot redefines what we expect from classic dishes.
A Cozy Vietnamese Spot in the Heart of Toronto
Located near Bathurst Station, Nang Saigon welcomes guests into an intimate space featuring exposed brick nooks and a fully stocked bar. Whether you’re dining solo or with a group, the restaurant offers plenty of seating options. Service here goes beyond the typical warm hospitality of Vietnamese restaurants—staff members deliver an attentive, friendly, and elevated experience, all without a hint of pretension.
A Pho-ntastic Menu (But We’ll Be Back for the Crab Soup!)
While the Crab Tomato Noodle Soup (Bun Rieu) is a highly anticipated dish, it’s only available on weekends. Unfortunately, we visited on a Tuesday, but that just gives us a reason to return!
We kicked things off with the Rice Paper Roll with Shrimp— a fresh, well-balanced appetizer served with a creamy peanut dipping sauce. Every bite delivered the perfect combination of crispness, tang, and juicy shrimp.
Spring rolls are often predictable, but Nang Saigon’s Deep-Fried Pork Spring Roll took things up a notch. The slight smokiness in the crispy wrapper set it apart, while the filling of minced pork, noodles, and vegetables was packed with flavor and texture. The house-made fish sauce was milder than store-bought versions, making it an easy favorite.
House Rib Pho: The Best Pho in Toronto?
With the crab soup unavailable, we had to go for Nang Saigon’s signature House Rib Pho—a dish that many claim is among the best pho in Toronto. Unlike the typical rare beef pho, this version features tender beef ribs, slow-cooked bones, and a touch of red wine, creating a depth of flavor reminiscent of French-style boeuf bourguignon.
When the steaming bowl arrived, it was a showstopper— rich broth, caramelized onions, and fall-off-the-bone beef that melted in our mouths. The sweetness from the onions and the richness from the red wine elevated the broth, making it unlike any other pho we’ve had.
Vietnamese Cuisine with a Global Influence
Nang Saigon proves that modern Vietnamese cuisine can be both innovative and authentic. By blending traditional techniques with bold new flavors, this restaurant brings a unique fusion dining experience to Toronto. Every dish was worth the hype, and we’ll be back soon—especially for that weekend-only crab soup!
