El Salvador is a small country in Central America with a mighty cuisine. It’s famous for the pupusas – one of Eat the World To’s favourite items to eat on the planet. These delights are patties made with rice or corn flour then cooked with toppings inside such as meat, beans, and cheese. It’s delicious eating alone or with a hot sauce of your choice. Picture taking a bite of a giant, savoury pancake.

El Salvador’s famous dish is also accompanied with other items popular in the region like rice and beans, tacos, and quesadillas. This is exactly what the menu at Casamiento offers with a variety of ingredients to make your own adventure on each base. Most of the dishes are meant to be eaten individually, so each diner can pick the toppings they prefer. If you really want to share one dish, it might get messy, but more power to you!

If there were to be a president of the pupusas, it would be the Pork Revuelta. The meat is slow cooked, similar to pulled pork in texture but the taste is less barbecue and more meaty, allowing it to pair perfectly with cheese. Not only was it the evident crowd pleaser, but it was also the most recommended by the Salvadorian staff at the restaurant.

Sticking to the pupusa vibe, you have to order the Loroco flavoured one – an edible flower from the Central American region that has a savoury taste similar to a caper. The pupusa is served with the loroco flower and melted cheese. The flavour profile makes it unique on the menu from the rest of the meat and vegetarian options.

After that, it’s up to you what filling tempts your taste buds. The black beans and cheese is another traditional option, but you can’t go wrong with the chicken, beef, and chorizo. There’s also a vegan cheese option available. In the grand scheme of things, pupusas are delicious no matter what the insides are so make your pick according to your palate.

As for the tacos, the majority of the toppings are the same. The Fried Fish taco is one of a kind on the menu, and came highly recommended from the table that ate before us. If fish is your thing, then you’ll love each soft and delicious bite. The Braised Beef is another winner. How do you go wrong with tender pieces of beef on a tortilla? There are other topping options too, so similar to the pupusas, pick what makes your stomach grumble.

The quesadillas are easily the most shareable, but be prepared to still get your hands dirty. The Chorizo Quesadilla was the must-try of our gang simply because we’re all chorizo lovers. It’s made in-house and mixed with cheese then cooked between two tortillas.

In true Central American fashion, the only side dish is Rice and Beans. Whether you love or like either of these items, you won’t regret this last minute addition to your order. Otherwise, wash your food down with a selection of Mexican beers or juices that’ll be sure to bring back memories of being down south.

Pupusas make a positive impact on people, and everyone that gets introduced to them adores them. If you are a pupusa lover, or want to be, the Casamiento is your place for awesome Salvadorian food and service.

Eat with you soon,
